Introduction to Critical Thinking (PPTX)

(2)
This 30-slide PowerPoint has been carefully designed with both the teacher and the student in mind. It is aesthetically pleasing, informative without being too “wordy,” and arranged so that there is an organic flow to the presentation. Also of importance, it is based on an online chapter titled, “What is Critical Thinking?” on OSU’s website that is available to anyone. For this reason, the reading can be assigned in advance so that the students can read about the subject before the presentation. Other websites were also used in a supplementary manner to build this PowerPoint. Here are a few topics that are covered: What is Critical Thinking? What is Critical Thinking not? Attitudes That Are Obstacles to Critical Thinking 7 Thinking Habits That Characterize Critical Thinking Examples of Critical Thinking Questions to Encourage Critical Thinking

My Confessions by Leo Tolstoy - Part 1 (PowerPoint w/ Link for Reading)

(0)
This 25-slide presentation was created and used in a University classroom. Leo Tolstoy, most famous for his realistic fiction (e.g., Anna Karenina and War and Peace), wrote an autobiography of sorts reflecting upon a horrible existential crisis that he encountered around the age of 50. He wants to find meaning, and neither his family nor his “art” (writing) seem to have any purpose. This is truly a dark time, and when he looks for answers in the “field of experimental science” and “speculative philosophy,” he comes up short. This presentation was created in conjunction with the following link which can be downloaded as a PDF (click here to be redirected). This presentation (Part 1) goes with pages 1-12 of the reading, and covers the first half of his experience: his darkest hour and his attempt to try and resist the temptation to commit suicide. In Part 2 (also available for purchase in the store), Tolstoy’s solution will be discussed.

This 26-slide presentation was created and used in a University classroom. In this lecture/presentation, his solution (his way out of the existential crisis) is discussed. This presentation was created in conjunction with the following reading which can be downloaded as a PDF (click here to be redirected). This presentation–Part 2–focuses on Tolstoy’s solution in great detail (faith, or “irrational knowledge”). It corresponds to pages 12-24 in the PDF that is linked. Part 1 is also available in the store, and needs to be taught prior to this presentation so that students have context. Part 1 was created to correspond to pages 1-12 of the linked PDF.

Introduction to Christian Ethics - Part I (PowerPoint)

(0)
This 41-slide PowerPoint presentation is carefully crafted to be aesthetically pleasing, engaging, informative, but not “cluttered.” This presentation is based on the first chapter in Wayne Grudem’s Christian Ethics. It is the first in a series of four PowerPoints (others are forthcoming and will be completed by the end of February 2021). A very detailed preview has been uploaded. While much of the text has been removed, each’s slide’s title has been left so that you can get a good idea of what is addressed in this PowerPoint. Other material has also been included to supplement some of Grudem’s main points. The PowerPoint works through the chapter in order, and while very organized, is created to have more of an organic flow so that each slide naturally follows the preceding slide. Wayne Grudem is a conservative evangelical (and Reformed to be more specific) Christian and scholar. He believes that the Bible is inerrant, and believes that Christian Ethics ought to be conducted with this in mind. However, as he points out and as this presentation elucidates, there are other approaches to ethics in Christianity.

This presentation has been designed with both the teacher and student in mind. It is aesthetically appealing and built so that one slide naturally flows after the other. Also, the following worksheet has been created to accompany this PowerPoint. It consists of 15 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and two more short-essay questions. Click here to view.
